As we read in the previous section, Plymouth Rock is one of America's greatest symbols. Over a milion tourists see the Rock every year at Plymouth, Massachusetts. The most famous rock in the world of religion is the Dome of the Rock. This famous rock is housed in an eight sided building with a huge gold dome. It is the dominant building in the city of Jerusalem, Israel.

The following pictures show the building and the rock itself. For Judaism, the rock is the foundation of Solomon's temple and the place where Abraham almost sacrificed Isaac. For Islam, this is a sacred place because Mohammad ascended to Heaven from this rock.
